Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Mexico

Sexual abuse of a minor - options

My step daughters recently confessed that they had been sexually abused by their previous (5+ years ago) step father. Both were minors at the time but both are over 18 now.

What are our options? We fo not want this guy molesting other girls. He is in education and has potential contact with more minors.

Can we still file criminal charges? Can we inform the state board of education even if we can't file agenst him?

What can we do to stop him?

Thanks.

Re: Sexual abuse of a minor - options

If you live in the Albuquerque area the DA has a sex crimes unit which can advise you.

If you live elsewhere, contact your local DA for advice.

It is not too late to file charges, but get legal advice before proceeding to notify others outside of law enforcement.

If you remain troubled you may call us at 1-800-858-3636 for further advice.
