In rare circumstances some guilty pleas can be withdrawn. It takes a strong showing that the Defendant was uninformed, misinformed or otherwise lacked a full understanding of the nature and consequences of his plea. The District Court has the power to allow a previous guilty plea to be withdrawn, but it is rarely done. If such were granted, then the Defendant is back in the trial arena.
