Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico
I have a 3 yr old and his father has never been around at all. When I told him I was pregnant he said he didnt want anything to do with us. Does he still have any rights to my son and if so how can I get them relinquished?

If he is named on the child's birth certificate, then he has full parental rights concerning that child. Those rights may be terminated under certain circumstances, which requires legal action. He is also liable for child support for that child. At this point he would owe for 3 years which could be a considerable sum. Some fathers trade their rights for forgiveness of the child support obligation. Consult a domestic relations lawyer for further advice concerning your rights.
