absent fathers obligation

So my mother could sue for unpaid child support from the father even if the child is now an adult?

Yes. There is also some case law that says an adult child under some circumstances can recover unpaid child support. She should consult an attorney. There are some private child support collection outfits that will go after deadbeat dads but sometimes they are a little sleazy, so beware.
