Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico

Change of child custody

Step mom has custody of my daughter and she now wants to give me custody back in agreement with all parties involved. Where can I get a free change of child custody agreement or instructions of how to type up my own?

Re: Change of child custody

Depending on which judicial district you are in will make up the difference of how to answer your question. If you have the ability to make it to the Albuquerque District Courthouse they have a Pro Se Clinic to help people out with the type of issue you present. However, that is the only place I would refer you to try in the context of "do it yourself."

The reality here is that if someone else has custody of your child and you want to make a court order to ensure that custody of your child reverts to you then spend the money on a lawyer to make a proper court order that works to your benefit and the benefit of your child. It won't take you very long to realize that it was money well spent. Look in the yellow pages of where you are at for "family or divorce" lawyers. You can also go to http://www.nmbar.org and look there for lawyer referrals.

Good luck
