Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico

I am one of two children. My parents got divorced when I was 4. I have not see or spoken with my father. My mother had filed for child support many years ago and my mother received a letter back saying they could not find him. My father recently died, and we are wondering if we are entitled to anything.

This is an estate question and you should ask it again under that heading. There is some family aspect that would present a possibility: (1) There is at least one case in New Mexico in which a person not yet twenty one was able to collect unpaid child support from a parent. It could be that you could also get it from his estate. (2) If your dad died intestate (without a will) or under some other circumstances you are probably entitled to a share of his estate. Both these ideas need study by an attorney whom you have made familiar with the facts of your situation, because those facts will determine the outcome.
