Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico
Custody Change
My husbands ex will not let him have visitation with his children. They have been divorced now for almost 7 yrs. and in that time he has only gotten to see his children aprox 2 wks. worth of time. We have even driven 13hrs one way (4 seperate times) just to be able to see them for an hour or two. She won't even let us take them somewhere local after driving all that way. She will only let us see them if we sit in her house to visit. We are tired of arguing about visitation and are ready to do something about it.
I have read that custody of the children can be changed if the cust parent keeps the children from the non cust parent. Is this true and how can you go about getting it done? Do you have to have a lawyer to do this or can you file a modification request?

Re: Custody Change
I would contact an attorney in New Mexico if that is the court that has jurisdiction. The New Mexican Bar Association will gladly give you the names of attorneys who specialize in family law.
Good luck!
