Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico

I have decided i no longer want my aunt to be a part of my family. I dont want her to be able to make any claims in my life. I.E. if i were to get really hurt or die or something i dont want her to benefit in any way. How do i disown her so she has no legal rights as a family member of mine?

If the Guru may be permitted to make a small (and perhaps not too funny joke) there is an old saying "you can pick your nose but you cannot pick your family." This is a lead in to a very old issue that never really goes away ~ there are lots of family members on this world who simply do not like each other. Fortunately, the law does provide a path to allow you to separate yourself from your aunt. The most simple form is to make a will. (I believe you can buy a will kit from LawGuru). In the will you spell out the fact that you don't want your aunt involved in any aspect of your post life affairs and you can lay out the reasons why you have made that statement in your will. (You are not required to do so but there is nothing stopping you from doing so). However, for a more detailed legal answer to your question you will need to provide more facts. Some of those facts include, but are not limited to, setting forth your age, your marital or family status and other information.

Good Luck
