In NM it's effective when the Judge signs the final decree. You can call the Clerk of the Court in the County where the divorce was filed to see if that has occurred. You can also go online to the website for that court (go to nmcourtsdotcom and find your court) and look up the docket to see what stage the proceedings are in, then call the Clerk to get a copy of whatever you want. A certified copy of the decree costs a couple or three bucks.
