divorce
My husband and I are in agreement on what we want out of our divorce but there is a sixteen year old child who is not the biological son of my husband. He wants to adopt him how should we proceed on this and what are the implicatons of adoption first then the divorce.

Re: divorce
After reading your query my first question was: is the 16 year old related to you? Your notes speaks of him in the 3rd person passive so it sounds like maybe he's not related to either you or your husband. If he is your child and you and your husband have been married for more than 1 year you can do a step parent adoption that is not overly complicated. You will have to use an attorney. [see my other posts on how to find attorneys in your town or city]. Adoption is a statutorily constructed relationship thus all the T's must be crossed and the I's dotted. People who try to do it without an attorney usually just give up because of the small details that a family lawyer or an adoption lawyer knows all about. If you sit down with a family lawyer and explain what you want done you'll be able to get it accomplished without a great deal of trouble.
Good luck.
