can you file for custody of a minor child in california while there is an open case of custody for the same minor in new mexico?

If the New Mexico Court has already determined that it has jurisdiction, the California court should reject the filing or refer it to New Mexico. Most maybe all of the states have reached agreement on this to avoid contrary rulings on the same child.
