Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico

Legal Seperation or Divorce

My husband and I are divorcing. We have most arrangements planned yet we do not know what to do with the house situation (who is keeping, etc) and we want a legal document in effect for many reasons. What do we do and what is appropriate? This is a friendly divorce and we need it to be 'cost effective' otherwise known as cheap. Is a letter dividing assets and notarized wise? Or should we buy forms? See a judge? These are the things I struggle with. We still live in the same house as finances currently dictate that situation. However a divorce is imminent and have decided we married for a good reason yet our marriage is failed and we are only friends and that is the way it is. But we feel a legal document is a good way to go in case things get 'nasty' in the future. I am not sure what is the best way to go around paying all the fees and such in a divorce when we're in 100% agreement about all aspects of the dissolution of our marriage. Our local government is not of much assistance--their advice is to call a lawyer.

Re: Legal Seperation or Divorce

get the divorce packets at firstdistrictcourt.com - go to general forms then divorce forms. They put together packets of forms with instructions. In your case look for uncontested divorce /without children /complex property issues.
