Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico

On the face of what you are asking the answer I'd say is that it is not illegal. I caution you not to rely on an answer off the internet if you have a court order that you have failed to mention or some kind of legal paperwork in your hand, so to speak. But, if you and your wife have no legal matter going on about your relationship and your wife says to you "I am taking little Juanita to California with me next week and we'll be back 7 days later." I say there is nothing illegal about that.
