Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico
Marriage certificate
I was married on May 10, 1963 in Panama, Central America. The certificate did not give my husband's exact name, the first name was given in Spanish instead of English and the last name was was missing a letter at the end. This certificate was recorded in the Civil Registry in Panama, Central America. Is the marriage considered legal? Where can I find further information regarding this?

Re: Marriage certificate
This is the type of question best suited to a private attorney. I suspect that the attorney would contact the Panamanian Consulate (or Embassy) and see if they would find the information for you locally (in Panama) as to which provence, town and registry book the marriage information was recorded in. If you did not have an attorney making this inquiry on your behalf you may be able to contact your federal legislator (either the NM Representative or either of the Senators) and ask them to make contact with the Panamanian Consulate on your behalf. They will be more than happy to help you out in this regard. Once you have made those contacts you will be able to ask the specific questions that you have about the marriage certificate.
As to the legality of the marriage ~ you are going to have to show that document to someone directly and ask that question.
Good luck.
