Legal Question in Family Law in New Mexico

payments

The divorce has been final for 2 years. The man got the house and business, two of his payments to me have bounced. He sends mean notes with payments, hangs up the phone when called about the bounced checks, and tells the adult children that I am the cause of all the fighting. He flew his ultralite over me when I was standing in a pasture of young horses and spooked them. Can I have the payments made to a third party (the courts) and they send the checks to me so I will never have to have contact with him again? What would it take and how much would it cost to make the change? Who should have to pay for it? thank you

Re: payments

Payments for what? Your note is somewhat vague and leaves me guessing? If the payments are child support you can contact CSED in the city or town where you live and have the payments go through that government entity. If the payments are alimony or property division payments you could set up a bank account expressly for the purpose of having him send the payments to that account.

Gurus are not in the business of foretelling the costs and fees that attorneys charge for conducting legal transactions. Thus, I am unable to tell you how much something like this would cost. If you were satisfied with the attorney you used in the divorce go back to that person and tell him or her what you would like and then ask how much it would cost. If you would rather use a different attorney then look in the yellow pages or ask a friend for the name of an attorney and go and ask that person the same question. There are also a good group of attorneys at http://www.collaborativepractice.com/ and at that website go to USA then click on the map for NM and you'll see a bunch of lawyers' names for people in your zip code.

Good luck.
