seperation and child custody

My husband and I are seperated and planning on divorce. I have seen a lawyer and am trying to gather the money to pay for it. My husband has moved to his aunt's house in New Mexico. I remain in Texas with our two children. He remains very angry and bitter towards me. He wants me to bring the kids up to him for a couple of weeks during the summer. If I take the kids to him, could he keep my children? I am afraid that if I take them to him, I won't get them back.
