Employer dictating earned time off

My employer grants me 18 days of (sick/vacation)time off a year. I have approximately 10 days left to use for the year. My employer has recently given me a notice that I must take these days on days that he has chosen. Is that legal? Can he dictate my vacation and sick call time off?

They can say "use them or lose them" but without reviewing your employee manual (or handbook) I can't answer your question. Are you in a Union?
