30 day rental notice

i have been living on a month to month agreement, i just paid my rent for January 2008 and the landlord tells me i have 30 days to leave due to him wanting to sell the home.

Please see if there is a registered leave and licence agreement if it is there it would be governed by provisions of same . If you don't have agreement you can request him to extend the time till you make alternative accomodation . But unlike earlier days you certainly can't become tenant as law has been changed
