Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Mexico
real and personal property
My mom is paying taxes on a friends land that died two years ago. What rights does she have now on this piece of land...No relatives have been seen for over 20 years that the woman lived there. She was buried by the state, no one would claim her as family members... The land is not much...Maybe a few acres and some old junk cars... What can she do to get the vehicle titles to take them and do whatever with and what rights to the small trailor she had on it...that is what she lived in. No running water at all and no power. The lady was quite poor... My mom is poor, but paid taxes so the ranchers would not burn down the place and lets cattle run on it.... Mom was one of few of her friends.... so, what rights does my Mom have in this property and the other items on this land. Thank you.

Your mother will have to file an informal probate and get a Court Order transferring the real property to her for taxes and the vehicles to her for storage. The forms can be found at:
