Tenant in New Mexico, Landlord in Nigeria

I was looking to rent a house from a gentleman in Nigeria, he says that once I send him the first months rent, he will send me the keys. He has sent me a lease agreement to sign. Does this sound like a legitimate offer??

One should be very cautions in dealing with someone unknown in Nigeria. Many net scams originate there. Require some proof of ownership by the prospective landlord before sending any money or signing any documents. Check with the neighbors to see who owns the house. A utility bill, tax bill or similar document will disclose the owner. The county treasurer can provide a name if given the address. Be careful.
