Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Mexico
probable cause
i would like to know, if no violation or crime is being cummited. simply parked in a store parking lot,waiting for my husband. along with serveral other cars. a police officer cruises the lot, for no known reason runs the plates of the vehicle i am in, and stopped me as i was exiting the lot.is this legal?

Re: probable cause
If he otherwise had a valid reason for stopping you, such as a run of your plate revealed an outstanding warrant, then what he did was legal.
