How would I define the difference between trademark TM and registered R ?

Re: defination
A person may use a trademark and identify it as such with the letters tm which stands for "Trade Mark." This designation is intended to notify others that the user considers the design to be a trade mark, identyfing the user and containing good will. If the mark is registered with the National Patent and Trademark office
(WWW. USPTO.GOV)it becomes a registered trademark and is marked with the (r) mark.
