My Mother is 75 years old and widowed. She is in good health both mentally and physically, but,the time has come for her to move in with my family and I. We would need to do some up minor upgrading of our space to accommodate her. She would pay for those renovations from the sale of her home. My question is, if she ever needed to go into a nursing home in the future, would we (my family) be liable for the money spent on our renovations, being they came from her assets?

There is nothing wrong with the expenditure of the Medicaid recipients funds in order to accommodate the recipient's living needs. As long as the funds were paid out at a fair market value to the contractor, there should be no issue.
