Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

i have been considering filing bankruptcy but i may have a pending lawsuit in the next couple of months but am not 100% sure, would filing bankruptcy protect me from a future lawsuit such as that?

A bankruptcy filing would protect you from the future lawsuit.
Since you know that you have a potential debt with some creditor, you would simply list this claim in your petition, even if you dispute owing any money to the creditor and even if the amount in question is unknown.
Once you file the bankruptcy, the automatic bankruptcy stay would prohibit the creditor from ever bring a lawsuit against you.
