Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

in New york state, are debt collection agencies allowed to tack on additional interest on debts they "purchased" or am i only liable for the original amount?

They are allowed to tack on the additional interest but usually with some negotiating, you can get those additional fees removed.
