Legal Question in Disability Law in New York

maternity leave

I live in NY and have been at my current job for less than one year. I just had a baby and do not qualify for FMLA. I am eligible for temporary disability from the state for six weeks. My employer terminated my employment immediately after I gave birth because they do not want to pay my insurance during my six weeks of disability. Is this legal?
