Legal Question in Administrative Law in New York
Civil Litigation Attorney
My husband moved out 4 weeks ago and took up with his business partner. I found out tonight that the business they currently have is in trouble. This is according to him. We used to have two businesses (car dealerships). Last year we sold off the very large business and were forced to place the proceeds into the second business due to their cash shortfall. I now understand that most of the money has been diminished. I was under the impression that the ownership had been transferred under a buy/sell agreement. He explained tonight that he repurchased the stock back out of the monies we made from the sale of the prior dealership. Where does this leave me. I would like to know what kind of counsel would help in this sort of case and also handle a divorce.

Find a divorce lawyer NOW. Do not delay. His assets may disappear if you do.
Re: Civil Litigation Attorney
You are describing a situation where: you are being told that the business is failing. This may be true. However, it may also be a 'screen' whereby assets are being liquidated and hidden in ppreparation for divorce.
An attorney can give you a voice in what is happening and require him to make documents available to you.
Are you definitely going to be divorced? If so, find someone now. Do not wait until the assets are gone or in a 'form' that is difficult to evaluate or distribute.
These are the same problems that many women have in a divorce. The husband has 'managed' (controlled) the family business and not made intimate knowledge available to the wife. Now, with divorce on the horizon, there are problems evaluationg and accounting for financial assets.
