Legal Question in Administrative Law in New York

An employee has a sign posted on the Refrigerator at work that reads, every Friday at 3 p.m. anything not marked with your name will be thrown out of the Refrigerator. I took that to mean refrigerator not freezer. Yesterday at 215 pm I put a bag of frozen items I just purchased into the freezer totalling about $15. At clock out time I went to get my bad and it was trashed. Does a note on the frig give anyone the right to throw your items away, especially out of the freezer?

The procedure is in effect to ensure the welfare and safety of the employees since there are a good number of irresponsible and untidy folks who figure they are masters and the rest are servants and they should be picking up after them or have the ESP to know when to throw away their rotten stuff. Thus, this procedure is for your benefit as well as the other employees. You should have written a note on your goods indicating your removal at the end of the day and "please do not discard" with your name on it. Live and Learn.
