Legal Question in Administrative Law in New York

Good day,

My legal query is perhaps two-fold. I currently own a small "for profit" business that does non-profit work in my community with artisans. My business model is such that there is a not-for-profit piece whereby I'd be offering art classes to low-income and under-served youth in that same community.

I'd like to know if it is ethical and legally sound for me to own both business AND/OR should I have another party running the non-profit piece for me or vice versa???

I definitely don't want to have legal issues nor do I want it to appear unethical.

Thanks in advance for your attention to my request.

Have a productive day!

Damion O.

** I am not sure what "jurisdiction" of the law this would fall under but If not administrative, could you please forward it to the appropriate area.

One does not own a not-for-profit company. A not-for-profit is a company with a public good headed by a board of directors and is not owned by any specific person.

A not-for-profit can be formed and you can conduct activities through it. You would be able to services and contributions to the not-for-profit company and get tax deductions for your for-profit company. Forming a not for profit is quite an effort and I can assist you with it.
