Legal Question in Administrative Law in New York

Hello, how are you? I have a question.

I notarized a lease for a person in niece, who's signature I witnessed. I only notarized her signature. However, now i'm getting a complaint from a third party stating that I notarized the document (her signature) without her being present. I am writing a statement in response, which has been requested. I stated that i only witnessed one person's signature, and this woman presented her ID as proof of identity. What are the possible outcomes if i'm found at fault?

The best advice that any attorney would tell you is not to do anything until you get an in-person consultation. Don't be "penny-wish" because you could be "pound-foolish." In other words, be cheap and find yourself as a defendant in a lawsuit.
