Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in New York
Court summons for a public disturbance violation
What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York
I have a question for a friend that has a court summons for a public disturbance violation. He is supposed to appear in court on January 21st, but seeing as he lives in California, that's a bit difficult. Now, the officer on duty told him that if he wrote a letter to the court pleading guilty, he (the officer) was nearly certain that either the charges would be dropped or he would be issued a fine without having to appear in court. He has written to the court with no response, and hasn't received much help over the phone either. It's nearly impossible for him to appear in court, and he really doesn't want to end up with a warrant out for his arrest.
Any help you may be able to provide us would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

Having a NY attorney handle this is best. Surely you or your friend know a lawyer here in California, and he can assist you in obtaining NY counsel. That ought to make it easier for to "screen" who you are hiring.
