Legal Question in Banking Law in New York
Joint checkintg accounts
My wife made a check out to a individual for services rendered, but my wife stopped payment and now we are being sued. Can I personally be sued on a check I did not sign, but came from our joint checking account. Also she signed a separate contract with the individual that I had nothing to do with.

Re: Joint checkintg accounts
You're not personally liable on the contract, assuming you are not a party to it, and the suit against you should be dismissed. However, should the plaintiff win a judgment against your wife, he may satisfy it from jointly owned property, such as your checking account.
