Whether a debtor can keep real and/or personal property when s/he files for bankruptcy protection depends on that debtor's individual circumstances.

What you can keep depends on what you have. In New York, you can, in most cases, keep up to $50,000 in equity in your house and up to $2,400 in a car.

You may very well keep your assets, depending upon the amount of equity that you have in these assets.
