Re: bankruptcy

The answer to your question is a resounding and remarkably unsatisfying IT DEPENDS.

Whether a debtor can keep real and/or personal property when s/he files for bankruptcy protection depends on that debtor's individual circumstances.

Please contact an attorney who is local to you to discuss your individual case. You can get a referral from the New York State Bar Association (www.nysba.org) or perhaps from your local county's bar association. If you cannot afford an attorney, you might contact your county's Legal Aid Society to see if you qualify for their services.

Re: bankruptcy

What you can keep depends on what you have. In New York, you can, in most cases, keep up to $50,000 in equity in your house and up to $2,400 in a car.
