If I cosigned a mortgage loan for a friend, and I am planning on filing bankruptcy, can I petition the court to remove my name from this loan?

Re: Bankruptcy
Assuming that you are filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy relief, your obligation on the mortgage will be automatically eliminated once the court grants your discharge.
You would not have to take any additional action in the bankruptcy proceeding.
