Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York
Effect of bankruptcy on home in two people's names
I live in New York and am contemplating bankruptcy. I live with my girlfriend in a home that is in both of our names (mortgage and deed). This is the only thing that is in both of our names (we have always had separate bank and credit card accounts). What effect would my bankruptcy have on her and on the home ? The home was purchased 5 years ago for about 74,000.00 and we still owe about 70,000.00 on the home. Please advise.

This is a very hard question to just answer via e-mail, there is no simple answer. You need to set up an appointment and discuss this with an attorney. I can be reached at 201-646-9600.
