Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York
What should I expect to pay for a bankruptcy?
I plan to file bankruptcy in New York and am about to shop for represenation. I've never hired an attorney so I don't know what the going rate for fees are -- some help please? Also, how much should I expect to pay in court costs, etc? What are the "etc"?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Expect to pay for bankruptcy
(1) Unless there's been a very recent change, the filing fee is $175.00, and this is the only court cost.(2) Atty's fee varies from practitioner to practitioner &, of course, the complexity of your particular financial situation has a bearing. I would *guesstimate* that $600.00 would be rockbottom minimum. Some "legal aid-type" programs will help with bankruptcy _if_ you are @ pennyless.
