Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York

Liens after chapter 7 is petitioned3

We are trying to re-finance our current home mortgage. Have paid all fees, submitted all documentation, received and signed commitment papers.

Very next day we receive a call from the Title Search Atty. saying there are (2) liens on our property from the prior dismissed chapter 7/bankruptcy (dismissed 10/96). He says that he can have the liens removed due to statue problems and petiton date errors.

I contacted the (2)atty's offices representing the said credit card companies, and they are saying there is no choice but to pay these debts with interest/penalties - Bankruptcy doesn't alleviate any of these debts/liens.

What alternatives do my husband and I really have?

If you need further detail on this matter, please call us at the evening phone #.

Thank you in advance for your expedience!
