Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York
My mom is recently widowed following a 10 month decline of my fathers heath, which included hospital and nursing home stays as well as two major surgeries. Their only income is social security, with food stamps and medicaid. They did have a credit card which they were forced to use to survive and now have $6500 of debt on it. My father was the primary card holder and when he passed, they closed the account and sent a final bill to his estate. I am wondering what options we have. My mother can not afford to pay this back. We're not sure what our options are for his medical bills as well.
