Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York
I am in the process of declaring chapter 7 bankruptcy. I am very aware that the one debt that will not be erased are my student loans. I however have a problem. I owe an ex college over 7 thousand dollars. That debt is in collections. Can that debt be erased without affecting the grades I received while I attended the college. As of right now I can not obtain my transcripts from them because I owe them the 7 thousand dollars. If the debt is cleared through bankruptcy do they have the right to withhold my grades/transcripts from me?

Regardless of teh dischargeability of the debt (it may or may not be considered a loan), refusing to give you a transcript is likely a violation of the automatic stay. Have your lawyer demand they issue one.
