Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York
Short Question-Please help!
In Brief,
I'm a UK citizen, I lived in the US for 3.5 years and have US credit card debts of $25,000.
I now live in the UK and don't plan on returning to the US. I am paying over $550/month in US debt interest payments. I don't have a job at the moment and I won't be able to keep up with payments for more than the next 5 months. Even if I get a job, it'll take me for ever to beat the interest payments.
My question is: can I file for US bankruptcy? If not, what are my options?
I would really appreciate any advice/help, I'm losing sleep at night.

Re: Short Question-Please help!
It would probably be more practical to file bankruptcy in the UK. After all - you would be required to list ALL debts, including any UK debts as well as your UK income and monthly expenses. Any UK debts you have would also be discharged in a US Bankruptcy. Why not file in the UK? - your "American" debts could likely be discharged there.
