Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York
I am currently unemployed and have been since May 2010. I am trying to file bankruptcy however I am unable to afford it. I have contacted Nassau/Suffolk Law Services and have been advised the soonest I can get in will not be for another 2 months. The bill collectors are constantly calling me, now they are even calling my family that I don't even reside with and never resided with. I need an attorney that can possibly do my bankruptcy as a Pro-Bono case. Please if there are attorneys out there in the Suffolk and or Nassau Area that can take this on please I will be much appreciated. I am a mother of two children and I am barely surviving. I have been to Social Services for Assistance however they told me $322.00 per week in NYS Unemployment I make too much money, My rent is $1600.00 per month and I pay my own utilities. I have been going to family every month for help in the offset. Please I am hoping there is an Attorney out there that can help me in my situation.

Send the bill collectors a certified letter with a copy to the NYS Dept. of Banking and state that they are not to contact you and your family via telephone. If they violate this provision, then you may have a claim for damages in a court of law.
