Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New York
I have been out of work in the construction industry for 18 months. My youngest daughter has been extremely ill for the last two years. I was considering filing for bankruptcy for $35,000 in credit card debit because there is no way to repay it, all my money goes to care and medical copays for my daughter. My reason for holding off on filing was to see what my funds would allow as far as cutting a deal with my creditors. Now one creditor has told me they are going to sue me soon. If I wait until I get served to file for bankruptcy will it be too late to avoid this judgement. I need to find a good bankruptcy attorney in the NYC/ LI region. Thank you for your response.
