Legal Question in Business Law in New York
Accepting donations in New York
Hi, I've just been diagnosed with a rare disorder and am unable to work. I am trying to figure out a way to solve this problem with accepting donations and in return giving a cookbook as a gift for the donation. Are there any laws against this? Thank you!

No laws against it. However, unless you are deemed a charity under IRS Rule 501c3, the donation is not tax deductible. Furthermore, money received from the sale of the cookbook is deemed income to you. You will also probably have to be responsible for NY Sales tax.
