Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Bad Inspection

I had my car inspected in December. My brakes were grinding so I took the car to another place to have them done. I had to replace the drums rotors and everything because the place it was inspected did not tell me I would need them or even hint at it. I understand it is illegal for them to say you need brakes now when getting an inspection. But they could have said you might need brakes real soon. So my question is is there anything I can do for compensation?

Re: Bad Inspection

The NYS inspection process is in place to ensure that cars on the road are safe to operate. If your brakes were functional at the time of the inspection, then that's the end of the inspector's responsibility. If a car's brakes are bad at the time of the inspection and the inspector passes the car with bad brakes, then the owner can report the incident to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles; that, however, does not result in compensation for owner's expenses for car maintenance.
