As an employee, you are not entitled to automatically deduct any monies or compensate yourself for any jobs, whether within or without the scope of your purported employment. Your compensation should have been discussed before you went upstate. Provide him with the money and ask for reimbursement by provision of receipts. In this market, you had better hold on to your job rather than making waves. Next time, you know better.
