Legal Question in Business Law in New York
If a business develops an Open source software, but has a proprietary component in it, such as a license, are they required to make that component based on the license open source as well? Or can it be structured as a premium feature that will only be provided upon the end user's request and payment?

The answer is: it depends. There are many flavors of open source licenses that could be used and many ways to combine proprietary and open codes together, therefore it depends on the type of open source license you opt to use and the manner the software will be used.
