Legal Question in Business Law in New York
Business Registration/License Required?
I am considering proving free of charge advice to clients in my industry. The plan is to do this for two years and when they know for certain that I deliver results I will charge for the service. Until I starting charging do I need to register as a business and get a license, etc.?

Re: Business Registration/License Required?
You don't have to have a company, but they will sue you personally if and when your advice causes them any kind of significant damages.
Re: Business Registration/License Required?
You would be better off forming a business entity to protect your personal assets. The fact you are not charging for your services will not necessarily limit your legal liability. I'm not certain what type of license if any you may need. That would depend on the industry you are working in. Please feel free to contact my office if we can be of assistance to you in this matter.
