Legal Question in Business Law in New York

A company owes my company over 8 months. we are in different states, how can i legaly pursue and eventually get paid, the amount is about $40,000.

Suing someone in a geographically distant state is often times very challenging. In the alternative you may be able to sue the company in New York depending on the contract you had with them (if at all), the activities of the company in NY and whether it has assets in NY.

Another option is to retain an attorney to send a demand letter. Many times after receiving such a letter from an attorney a party is motivated to settle the issue and pay up. This is also a fairly inexpensive solution.
