Legal Question in Business Law in New York
Dear LawGuru Team,
My girlfriend is a student at Fordham University and she works part time for WFUV a local NPR affiliate. She is part of a fellowship program that allows her to work as a junior producer for their radio segments. Recently there has been some issue about her paycheck. In particular the issue is that she receives payment from a stipend. As of today she was informed that she would no longer be paid as there is nothing left in the stipend. She has been working the last two weeks without this knowledge and nothing was provided to indicate that she would not be paid for these two weeks of work. I understand that this is a complex situation, but i have often found that complexity leads to loopholes so i am hoping that you can help.
Sincerely A concerned Boyfriend

She may want to file a complaint with the NYS Department of Labor.

As a Franchise Attorney I agree with the other attorney. Employees have a right to be paid for hours worked. If not, she should complain to your local Dept. of Law. They will investigate and take corrective action. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
